Pete Breugem

Pete has been immersed in the agriculture industry his entire life, and his move into viticulture was a natural progression. On holidays from school, and even through university, he worked on his uncle’s farm, gaining first-hand experience that he still draws on to this day.

He pursued tertiary studies in viticulture and winemaking – an interest stemmed from his work with his family.

After completing his studies, Pete completed several vintages overseas to further his role as a viticulturalist winemaker and site manager. He is now a partner in a wine brand and vineyard owner in McLaren Vale.

Today, Pete brings this valuable experience to his role as a Viticulturalist and Winemaker at Thomas Elder Consulting (TEC). Pete specialises in vineyard design, establishment and operation from greenfield to harvest.

He is constantly engaging with how the industry must adapt to new developments, and understands the industries challenges.

As an industry we have a renewed focus on increasing awareness about soil health and nutrition. We have moved on from the concept of “just add water” to focus on educating vignerons and winemakers that soil health and nutrition are of equal importance to adequate moisture levels.

Pete has unrelenting focus on R&D and technological advancement to help inform decision making.

Pete says he hasn’t looked back since joining TEC. He is passionate about helping client’s projects become successful through applying his practical expertise in managing numerous projects, and deep-rooted passion for the industry and its people.
